I recently had one of my reader’s email me with a confusing dream he had about animals and asked if I had any information about animal dreams.

Animals are one of the most common of symbols that appear in dreams. Dream animals are complex symbols, and there are many shades of their meaning. In general, animals in dreams most likely represent the basic, physical characteristics of that particular animal as it relates to you in your waking life, with some dream animals being more common than others.
 
The appearance of animals in dreams might represent your own physical characteristic, primitive desires, and sexual nature, depending on the characteristic of the particular animals. Animals can symbolize our more primitive side and may be an indication of some type of primordial sexual desire.

Animals also symbolize the untamed and uncivilized aspects of your inner self. Therefore if you dream that you are fighting with an animal symbolizes a hidden part of yourself that you are trying to reject and push back into your subconscious.
Dreams about talking animals usually have something to do with extended wisdom or knowledge about something. Dreaming of an animal talking to you can provide insight into your own abilities and hidden potential.

To dream that you are saving the life of an animal, suggests that you are successfully acknowledging certain emotions and characteristics represented by the animal.

The appearance of animals in dreams is another way for our dreaming brain to deal with emotions that are affecting us during our waking lives. Emotions such as hatred, anger, jealousy, pride, and fear are quite often portrayed through animals in dreams.

As with all symbols in our dreams the interpretation of animals in dreams is really up to you. Your subconscious manifested the animal image in your dream therefore you would be best to understand why. Asking yourself the following questions may help you have a better understanding meaning of you animal dream.

• What type of animal was it?
• What was the animal doing in the dream?
• Was it an animal you are familiar with like a family pet?
• How do you feel about that particular animal, does it scare you or do you feel connected with it in some way?

Keep in mind when interpreting animals in dreams look not only at the symbol but the circumstances surrounding the symbol, this will give you valuable clues to what the meaning of the dream. Look at the place the animal holds within your mind, culture and society for a better understanding of its meaning.

In the dream mentioned in the beginning of this article the man was dreaming that as he and his wife were traveling a path and he was constantly having to fight off bears that were attacking his wife. He tried to get his wife to go back or to travel a different path but she was insistent on continue the way they were traveling.
 
I have already given him my interpretation but I would like to hear what some of my other readers think.

The following is a list of some common animals found in dreams, and while this list is not complete it should help you understand how the characteristic of a particular animal can be interpreted.

Alligator
To see an alligator in your dream, symbolizes treachery, deceit, and hidden instincts. It may be a signal for you to take a new perspective on a situation. It may also represent your ability to move between the material world of waking life and the emotional, repressed world of the unconscious.  Alternatively, the alligator represents healing powers and qualities. An alligator also suggests that you are thick-skinned or insensitive.

To dream that you are running away from the alligator indicates that you are unwilling to confront some painful and disturbing aspect of your unconscious. There is some potentially destructive emotion that you are refusing to acknowledge and
owning up to.
 
Bear
To see a bear in your dream, symbolizes independence, the cycle of life, death and renewal.  It may signal of period of introspection and thinking. The dream may also be a pun on "bare". Perhaps you need to bare your soul and let everything out into the open.
To dream that you are being pursued or attacked by a bear denotes aggression, overwhelming obstacles and competition. You may find yourself in a threatening situation.
 
Bull
To see a bull in your dream, symbolizes stubbornness, strong will, strength, and power. The dream may be telling you that it is time to take a stand and be more assertive. Alternatively, the bull indicates a rich, prosperous, and abundant life. Consider also the metaphor, "being bull-headed". May be you need to show a little compromise in a situation. Or it could be a pun on something that is "bull", as in crap or worthless.
 
Bulls are also symbolic of repressed sexual energies, fertility and virility. To see an untamed, raging bull represents that your passions may be out of control. The bull may also represent a person in your life who is born under the Taurus sign.

Cat
To see a cat in your dream, symbolizes an independent spirit, feminine sexuality, creativity, and power. It also represents misfortune and bad luck. The cat could indicate that someone is being deceitful or treacherous toward you. If the cat is aggressive, then it suggests that you are having problems with the feminine aspect of yourself. The dream may be a metaphor for "cattiness" or someone who is "catty" and malicious. If you see a cat with no tail, then it signifies a loss of independence and lack of autonomy.
 
To dream that a cat is biting you, symbolizes the devouring female. Perhaps you are taking and taking without giving. You may be expressing some fear or frustration especially when something is not going as planned.
 
To dream that you chase the cat away signifies that you will overcome your obstacles.
 
To see a white cat in your dream denotes that you are going through difficult times.
 
To see a black cat in your dream indicates that you are experiencing some fear in using your psychic abilities and believing in your intuition. You may erroneously associate the black cat with evil, destruction, and bad luck.

Dog
To see a dog in your dream, indicate a skill that you have ignored or forgotten, but needs to be activated. Alternatively, dogs may symbolize intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. Your own values and intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and succeed. If the dog is vicious and/or growling, then it signifies some inner conflict within yourself. It may indicate betrayal and untrustworthiness. If the dog is dead or dying, then it indicates a loss of a good friend. Alternatively, it represents a deterioration of your instincts.
 
To dream that a dog bites you on the leg, suggests that you have lost your ability to balance aspects of your life. You may be hesitant in approaching a new situation or have no desire to move forward with your goals. Alternatively, it symbolizes disloyalty.
 
To see a happily barking dog in your dream, symbolizes pleasures and much social activity.  If the dog is barking ferociously, then it represents your habit of making demands on people and controlling situations around you. It could also mean unfriendly companions.
 
Also consider the notions associated with the word dog, such as loyalty ("man's best friend") and to be "treated like a dog".
    
Donkey
To see a donkey in your dream represents your stubbornness and unyielding personality. You are unwilling to cooperate with others. The donkey also symbolizes menial work. You may be feeling overburdened or stressed. If the donkey is dead, then it denotes that your party hearty attitude will lead to unrestrained immorality. It is also an indication of your long sufferings.
 
To dream that you fall off or are thrown from a donkey signifies disharmony in love which will lead to a separation.
 
To dream that you are kicked by a donkey, suggests that you are involved in illicit activities, which will bring your much anxiety and fear that you will be caught.
 
To dream that you are leading a donkey by a halter signifies your leadership abilities. You have the gift of convincing people to see things your way.

Elephant
To see an elephant in your dream indicates that you need to be more patient or more understanding of others. Or perhaps there is a memory that you are holding on to for too long. You need to let go of the past. The elephant is also a symbol of power, strength, faithfulness and intellect. Alternatively, the elephant's introverted personality may be a reflection of your own personality.

Goat
To see a goat in your dream represents your lack of judgment and your gullibility. Alternatively, goats are symbolic of sexuality, sexual desire, and lechery.  Also consider the associations with the goat as in "scapegoat" or "getting someone's goat". Do you feel that you have been blamed for someone else's deed?

To dream that a Billy goat butts you forewarns of enemies trying to get hold of your business plans.

Gorilla
To see a gorilla in your dream, suggests that you may be too "over the top" in your behavior. Perhaps you are compensating for your rigidity and stiffness in your waking life. Alternatively, the gorilla symbolizes your primitive impulses, wild nature and repressed sexual energy.

Horse
To see a horse in your dream, symbolizes strength, power, endurance, virility and sexual prowess. It also represents a strong, physical energy.  You need to tame the wild forces. The dream may imply that you have been horsing around. Alternatively, the dream indicates that you need to be less arrogant and "get off your high horse".

To see a black or dark horse in your dream signifies mystery, wildness, and the unknown. You may be taking a chance or a gamble at some unknown area. It may even represent occult forces. If the horse is white, then it signifies purity, prosperity and good fortunes. To dream that you are being chased by a white horse may be a pun on chaste. Perhaps you are having difficulties dealing with issues of intimacy and sexuality.
 
To see a dead horse in your dream, indicates that something in your life that initially offered you strength is now gone. This may refer to a relationship or situation.

To see a herd of wild horses in your dream signifies a sense of freedom and lack of responsibilities/duties. Perhaps it may also indicate your uncontrolled emotions.
 
To dream that you are riding a horse, suggests that you are in a high position or position of power. Alternatively, it indicates that you will achieve success through underhanded means. You lack integrity. If you are riding a horse that is out of control, signifies that you are being carried away by your passions.
 
To see an armored or medieval horse in your dream refers to your fierceness, aggression, power and/or rigidity. You may be seen as too confrontational. Alternatively, you may be trying to protect yourself from unconscious material or sexual desire that is emerging. 

Since the first reported alien abduction in 1957 by Antonio Villas Boas there have been a number of others that have also claimed to have been abducted. Their stories are remarkably similar. They wake up and find themselves paralyzed, unable to move or cry out for help. They see flashing lights and hear buzzing sounds. They feel an electric sensation which levitates their bodies. The approaching aliens with wrap-around eyes, gray or green skin, lacking hair or noses causes the abductees’ heart to pound violently. They are transported to the alien’s ship where they are probed. Instruments are inserted in their noses, navels, or other orifices. It's painful. Sometimes sexual intercourse occurs.
 
After a few seconds or minutes it is over. The aliens have vanished and the abductees are back in their own beds and can move again.

This experience sounds strangely like that of someone experiencing sleep paralysis. You wake up and find yourself paralyzed, unable to move or cry out for help. You are transcending from a sleep to a waking state causing hallucinations, where you may see and hear strange forms and sounds. Where you are fully awake you are not sure what just happened.

Ok so how do I come to remember all the details of my experience? Well most people that have claimed to have been abducted only remember the experience after being hypnotized to help them recover their lost memories.
 
Some leading Psychologist feel that hypnosis is a bad way to refresh your memories. Not only that, it renders you susceptible to creating memories of things that never happened, things that were suggested to you or that you just imagined.

This means that during hypnosis the hypnotist may actually create false memories by asking you questions like is there anyone in the room with you.

A study conducted by Psychologist at Harvard University also found that while the abductees show little evidence to support psychopathology in abductees. The research indicated that these individuals usually do not meet the criteria for serious psychiatric impairment, but they scored high on measures of schizotypy. Such individuals can be described as eccentric, prone to magical thinking, and loners. And concluded that abductees were prone to creating false memories in the lab and were confused about the source of these memories.
 
This study also made some other tantalizing discoveries. Measurements of sweating, heart rate, and brain waves showed that those claiming to be abductees show the same symptoms of post-traumatic stress syndrome as combat veterans. The researchers did not, however, conclude that the abductees had experienced combat-type trauma. Rather, they believe, it is the emotional significance of a memory, whether it is true or not, that causes sweaty hands and rapid heartbeats.

You may also find it interesting that stories of alien abduction did not exist prior to 1962, and they appear to have begun after they were dramatized on TV and in the movies. The first movie to depict alien abduction was the 1953 movie Invaders from Mars, and the Outer Limits television series presented a number of alien abduction stories from 1961-1964.

With the above information you may believe that those reporting to have been abducted by aliens are highly imaginative people that have experienced sleep paralysis and later through hypnotism have been couched into recovering false memories of the experience.

The possibility always exists that some sleep paralysis experiences might have been misinterpreted by the individuals reporting them as alien abductions, particularly by susceptible people who have been devouring books about aliens. But what about those who have claimed to have been abducted during a waking state.

While there is no proof to support or dismiss the reports of alien abduction we would be pretty vain to believe that we are the only intelligent beings in the universe or for that matter the most evolved. This being said I still find some of the report a little hard to accept of a more evolved being. If I am studying a monkey I am pretty sure that I am not going to want to have sex with it. 
 

I consider myself as open minded and although I myself have never experienced Astral Projection does not mean that it is not a real phenomena. Numerous people from different cultures all over the world have claimed to have experienced Astral Projection also known as Astral Travel or an Out Of Body Experience, some of which say that they have not only experienced an Out Of Body Experience but with practices you can control the experience of this phenomena.

OK that’s great but what is Astral Projection?  Well according to the encyclopedia it is an esoteric interpretation of any form of out-of-body experience (OOBE) that assumes the existence of an "Astral body" separate  from the physical body and able to Travel external to the physical body. Astral Projection Astral Travel symbolizes the Astral body leaving the physical body to Travel in the Astral plane.

In some religions this is spiritual practice that can involve Travel to higher levels of consciousness referred to as Astral planes. This is frequently described as any sensation of one’s Astral body Traveling outside of their physical body to gain a higher spiritual learning.

Now let us take a look at some of the history of Astral Projection  and beliefs of some of the cultures  that practices it.

According to classical, medieval, renaissance Neo-Platonist, later Theosophist and Rosicrucian philosophy, the Astral body is an  transitional body of light that links the  soul to the physical body, and the Astral plane is an  transitional  world of light amid Heaven and Earth composed of the spheres of the planets and stars. These Astral spheres were held to be occupied by angels, demons and spirits.



There are comparable concepts of "soul" Travel ancient Egypt and a variety of other religious traditions, for example ancient Egyptian teachings shows  the soul as having the ability to float outside the physical body in the ka, or subtle body. A widespread belief is that the subtle body is attached to the physical body by a psychic silver cord.

Even Christian religions recognize Astral Projection, but it is a prohibited practice for Roman Catholics because the soul; holds all reason, thought, memories, emotion, attitudes, and beliefs; leaves the physical body during a dreaming state and becomes agnostic indifferent toward The Holy Trinity and is left without protection.

A human soul, when detached from the physical body, during a dreaming state, is without the protection of Jesus Christ, and very vulnerable to molestation by evil demons.

Well don’t that beat all, I would of believed that the sold unencumbered by the physical man (the physical body) would have been impervious to evil, and sins of the physical man. Well that is a subject for whole different discussion.

As you can see the idea of Astral Travel has been around since ancient times and it is still alive today. Many eastern as well as new age religions practices meditation and have reported having Out Of Body Experiences (OOBE).

throughout the 60’s and 70’s as new age religions where on the rise and practicing many eastern religions ideas such as meditation. During this time a survey was done and reported percentages running from 8% to as much as 50% (in certain groups) of the respondents who they had an out of body experience. The  subjective  nature of the occurrence provides explanations that do not rely on the existence of an "Astral" body and plane. There is little beyond this opinionated evidence to support the idea  that people can actually really "leave their body".

Hey this sounds great I would like to get out of my physical body sometimes maybe I would get some relief from my rheumatism. All joking aside many physics, and eastern as well as new age spiritualist  believe that Astral Travel can help you obtain enlightenment or a higher spiritual awareness and we could all use a little help in that department. But the question still remains is Astral Projection real or just another form of lucid dreaming.

During a lucid dream you have the feeling that you are out of your body not unlike an Out of Body Experience, you can fly, Traveling to other plants. You can do just about anything you want. So is there any difference between Astral Projection and lucid dreaming? Many people, even Astral Travelers, say that there is no difference between the two; while others disagree and say that they are two different experiences
.
The reason they are different is that with Astral Travel you get into the Astral Plane direct out your physical body. When you are having a Lucid Dream, you have simply 'missed' the initial Projection.

Astral Travelers, say the difference arises generally because of the framework you are entering from. If you project from the waking state, you may encounter some difficulties due to restrictive thoughts carried with you that don't apply to the Astral realm, and require some practice to adjust to the new environment. alternatively, in a Lucid Dream, having accustomed to the expansiveness of the dream state, you can sometimes have the opposite problem, finding it hard to retain a conscious focus, and thus 'losing lucidity'. With practice of course, both of these will be overcome.

In conclusion if you ever had a lucid dream you recognize that the experience is not unlike that described as Astral Travel and in reality lucid dreaming may be an undeveloped form of Astral Projection and all you require is a little discipline and some focus and you too can be an Astral Traveler.

The candle is a very influential symbol in our conscious mind. It may represent is the light in a world that would otherwise be dark; it speaks to the deepest part of our soul. For this reason the candles has such a profound significance in so many cultures throughout the world. It can be found in the ceremonies of just about every religion.

Judaism

The candle is a dominant symbol in Judaism; one is lit every Friday night to celebrate the beginning of the Sabbath. On Saturday evening, a Havdalah candle is lit to mark the end of the Sabbath. Candles are also used in the Chanukah ceremony, where a candle is lit each evening for eight nights, to celebrate the candle which miraculously burned for eight days, when the Jews regained their temple from the Greek / Persian Invaders. For the Jewish people, the candles flame symbolizes the eternal burning flame of the divine being.
In Judaism a candle is also used to memorialize those who have passed away, and they are often lit to memorialize a loved one, or those who died tragically, such as those of the holocaust.

Christianity




In Christianity the candle is used for religious and decorative purposes. In its decorative function, it is a symbol of the Creators light, the light of Jesus. For this reason you will regularly find a candle lit and positioned on the altar. Ritually, candles are frequently lit and located in front of pictures or icons in the orthodox tradition. A votive candle may also be lit to go with a prayer. Some churches also use a Paschal candle which represents Jesus, and only lit on Easter and other extraordinary occasions.

Buddhism


In Buddhism, candles are frequently positioned in front of a statue of Buddah along with food or drink as a symbol of reverence. Symbolically they represent the light of Buddah's teaching and the enlightenment of the world.

Hinduism



In the Hindu tradition a diya, or clay lamp, is a very significant part of every religious ritual. The lamp holds a candle during the ceremony, and acts as a symbol of prosperity and enlightenment. Every year they also celebrate Diwalli known as the festival of light. On this festival lamps are lit to symbolize life and hope for the conquest of good over evil.

New Age Religion

New age religion also referred to as Metaphysics use candles to perform what is called candle magic, this is one of the simplest forms of spells. It's a simple ritual that does not require a lot of materials. Anyone with a candle can perform this ritual.
 
In this type of ritual the type of candle and the color are very important. First the candle must be new. Second it should be a short taper candle or a votive candle and must not be scented. Lastly the color should represent what you are working for. The following is a list of candle colors and what they represent.

• Black: Negativity and banishment
• Brown: Earth-related or animal-related workings
• Red: Courage and health, sexual love and lust, Fast acting
• Pink: Friendship, sweet love
• Orange: Attraction and encouragement

The spell would be written on a piece of paper of the same color as the candle. Fold the paper, concentrating on what you are working for. Chant your incantation and light the corner of the folded paper and allow to burn completely. Allow the candle to burn completely. If you must extinguish the candle before it has burned completely snuff it out with a candle snuffer never blow the candle out.

In concussion the question is would lighting a candle and saying a prayer before going to bed improve our chances of receiving revelation in our dreams. Would concentrating on that tiny flame while we meditate help to improve the enlightenment of our mind.

We have many types of dreams, lucid dreams which are fun hallucination from our subconscious mind, basic dreams or nightmares that are unconscious clues to psychological or emotional issues from our waking life, but what about  prophetic dreams, A Prophetic dream, also referred to as a precognitive dream, are dreams of events or incidents before they happen. A study showed that 42% of people felt they had had a dream about something that later came true.

Despite what all the skeptics may say many people have experienced prophetic dreams and believe that their dream can predict the future.

One of the earliest examples of prophetic dream interpretation comes from the Babylonian Epic of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh dreamt that an axe fell from the sky. The people gathered around it in admiration and worship. Gilgamesh threw the axe in front of his mother and then he embraced it like a wife. His mother, Ninsun, interpreted the dream. She said that someone powerful would soon appear. Gilgamesh would struggle with him and try to overpower him, but he would not succeed. Eventually they would become close friends and accomplish great things. She added, "That you embraced him like a wife means he will never forsake you. Thus your dream is solved.

Many People believe that Prophetic dreams or visions are messages from God about the future. Well there are about 174 mentions of prophetic dream and visions in the Bible. The word dream appears 123 times in the King James Version of the Bible. The phrase "vision of the night” appears 12 times. As seen in Job 33, it refers to dreams. "Visions of my head upon my bed" is found six times.

Joseph the son of Jacob whole life was shaped by dreams and the interpretation of them. The parents of Christ were warned of the cruel edict of Herod, and fled with the baby Jesus into Egypt. Pilate's wife, through the influence of a dream, advised her husband to have nothing to do with the conviction of Christ.

The ancient Greeks considered dreams to be prophetic or omens of particular significance. Artemidorus of Daldis, who lived in the Second Century AD, wrote a comprehensive text entitled Oneirocritica (The Interpretation of Dreams).

Throughout history Prophetic dreams or visions have played an important role in the lives of many political and spiritual people. Abraham Lincoln is said to have had dreams of his own assignation weeks prior to the actual event. The Pope and other spiritual leaders are said to receive revelation from God through dreams.

We all know that our brain is capable of much more than we use it for. We have all heard of people with telepathic abilities. Even if such dreams might appear crude and uncommon to the majority of us, scatological dreams are fairly common and typically bear a positive meaning. To defecate in your dream is generally related to removing all that is wrong, unnecessary or not wanted in your waking life.
 
Dreams involving excretory functions may also refer to letting go of the past and embracing a new lifestyle, changing one's old habits and way of thinking. Also, defecation dreams might be closely linked to a desire to resolve inner conflicts, to let go of negative emotions, remorse, feelings of guilt, and painful memories.

By definition, defecating is the final act that eliminates waste material (feces) in the human body, and the dream interpretation is surprisingly similar.

Dreams about defecation usually indicate that you’re going through some sort of emotional cleansing. Do the events surrounding your life lead you to believe you need to release a strong emotion you’ve been keeping inside? Stress, anger and anxiety are the most common issues.

Common defecation dreams:

To dream that you had a bowel movement, symbolizes that you are successfully getting rid of your old habits and ways and thinking. It is usually equivalent to the release of strong emotions, such as anger and anxiety.

To dream that you are defecating on someone symbolizes your anger and hostility for that person.
 
To dream that you are being defecated on symbolizes feelings of guilt and unworthiness. You may be suffering from low self-esteem.
 
To dream that you have diarrhea, symbolizes that some part of your life is may be out of control.  Alternatively, it may symbolize a need for you to get something out of your system quickly.

To dream that you have constipation symbolizes that you are unwilling to part with your old Habits and ways.

Feces:

According to Freud, feces are related to possession, pride, shame, money/financial matters, or aggressive acts. So to dream that you are playing with feces, symbolizes your anxiety over money and financial security.

Believe it or not, dreaming about feces isn’t all that uncommon. Usually, whatever is getting defecated on probably represents something worthless to you. Indicating a cleaning of the things you feel are unnecessary.

To see or come in contact with feces symbolizes aspects of yourself that are dirty and negative and which you believe to be unwanted and revolting. You need to acknowledge and express these feelings, even though it may be shameful.

If you’re the one covered in feces, it could symbolize that you don’t have a particularly high self-esteem. Your mind, body, spirit or soul is trying to tell you to clean up your life. The need to get rid of negatives aspects and unresolved issues. Alternately, some ancient folklore suggests dreaming of feces is an omen leading to future wealth or possessions a financial windfall of profits are on the way especially if it’s in your hand.

Urine:

Psychological Meaning: Urine might symbolize the feelings that you reject. You are trying to cleanse yourself of the things that you consider unworthy. However, dreams of urinating are typically caused by a full bladder. They have little symbolic significance- you should have gone before you went to bed.

Mystical Meaning: Urine has for centuries been regarded as a defense against ghosts and evil spirits. Also in some ancient folklore it is believed that if a girl urinates in a man’s shoes he will fall madly in love with her.
 
To see urine in your dream symbolizes the feelings you have rejected.

To dream that you are urinating, symbolizes a cleansing and release of negative or repressed emotions. Depending on your dream context, urination is symbolic of having or lacking basic control of your life.

To dream that you are urinating in public, symbolizes a lack of privacy in your affairs or your need to make a public apology or confession.

Bathroom or Water Closet (WC):

To dream that you are in the bathroom, relates to your instinctual urges. You may be experiencing some burdens or feelings that you ne rid yourself of. Alternatively, it may symbolize purification. You need to cleanse yourself, both emotionally and psychologically.
 
To dream that you are in a public restroom with no stalls symbolizes your frustrations about getting enough privacy. It may also symbolize that you are having difficulties letting go of old emotions. If you reveal these feelings, you are afraid that others around you will judge and criticize you.
 
If you dream that you are in a bathroom meant for the opposite sex, then it suggests that you have crossed the line in some situation.
 
To dream that you cannot find the bathroom symbolizes that you are having difficulties in releasing and expressing your emotions.

To see a urinal in your dream symbolizes disorder in your personal relationships.

To see a toilet in your dream, symbolizes a release of emotions or getting rid of something in your life that is useless. If you are cleaning the toilet, then it means that you are starting to shed your shell or lose your inhibitions.
 
To see a clogged toilet in your dream symbolizes that you are keeping your feelings to yourself. You need to let go of the negative feelings.
 
To see an overflowing or flooded toilet in your dream symbolizes your desires to fully express your emotions.

Haunted house dreams are very complex dreams and not always as easy to interpret as other dreams. They are actually two dreams in one, a house dream and a ghost dream. Either of these dreams are rather complex on their own and have many clues and symbols associated with the interpretation of their meaning. For this reason I will be presenting  this article in four parts. This, the introduction where we will discuss some psychological and spiritual thoughts, as well as things you should look for and remember about your dream. The house, different aspects and symbols and how they pertain to your dream. The Ghost that is haunting you in your dream, and finally I  will present a couple of examples along with a possible interpretation.

Psychological:

To dream of a haunted house, signifies unfinished emotional business, related to your childhood family or dead  relatives or repressed memories and feelings.

Spiritual:

Most haunted house dreams are typically recurring dreams and there are those that think that this could have  something to do with the dreamers surroundings or sleep environment and most recurrent dreams are relevant to the  unresolved issues of the person who is dreaming even though he may not presently know what the issue may be.
Dr. Daniel Condron (Director and Dream Researcher at the School of Metaphysics) believes the dream represents a  question or message (often related to a limitation, habit, fear or doubt) of the dreamer. And he thinks that the  dream will stop repeating once the dreamer understands the message and resolves to make the needed change.

Things to remember:

There are many clues and symbols in your dream that you should take careful note of. These clues and symbols will  give enormous insight to the true meaning of your dream.

The following is a list of some of these clues and symbols to remember about your dream.

The House:

• What type of house is it
• Where is the house located
• Do you recognize the house
• Do you know where in the house you are
• What type of furniture is in the room
• Are you staying in one room or are you moving around the house

The Ghost:

• Do you know the ghost
• Are you frightened by the ghost
• Are you communicating with the ghost
• Is the ghost chasing you through the house

Note being chased through the house by the ghost in your dream, adds new complexity to the interpretation of  the dream call chasing dreams but we will cover that dream type in a future article.

To see a house in your dream represents your own soul and self. Particular rooms in the house point to a specific aspect of your psyche.

To see your home in your dream signifies security, basic needs, and values.
 
To see home of your childhood, or a home that you formerly lived in, indicates your own needs to build a family.
To see an old, run-down house in your dream represents your old beliefs, attitudes and how you used to think or feel.

To see a new house in your dream represents that you are entering into a new stage or new region in your life.
To see a mansion in your dream, suggests that you need to grow. You may feel that your existing circumstances or relationship is in a rut.
 
To see a glass house in your dream signifies that flattery is likely to hurt you. To dream that you are living in a glass house signifies the threatened loss of your reputation.

The Rooms:

Dreams about different rooms often relate to hidden a region of the conscious mind and different aspects of your personality.

To see an attractive or comfortable room in your dream signifies comfort and contentment in life.

To see a dark, eerie or confining room, represents that you are feeling trapped or repressed in a situation.
 
To see an attic in your dream symbolizes the hidden memories or repressed thoughts that is being revealed. To see a cluttered attic, represents the need to organize your mind and thoughts. Maybe you need to rid yourself of the past and let go of past emotions that are holding you back.

To dream that you are in a basement, symbolizes your unconscious mind and intuition. It represents primal urges, animalistic desires and basic needs.

Aspects of the Room:

To see the floor in your dream represents support. It may also represent the separation between the unconscious and conscious mind.  

To see a polished, wooden floor in your dream symbolizes that you are fully aware of your unconscious mind but you are keeping it suppressed
.  
To see a slanted floor in your dream, predicts that you are straying too far from your original plans and goals.

To see a ceiling in your dream represents a mental or spiritual point of view. It may also symbolize the limits that you have set for yourself.

To see spiral or winding stairs, signify growth and/or rebirth.

To see a wall in your dream symbolizes limitations, obstacles or boundaries. There is a barrier that is preventing you from progressing. You may be too comfortable with your old habits and way of thinking.

To see windows in your dream signifies hopes, possibilities and insight. If the windows of a house are dark, then it indicates a loss in your perception or vitality.
 
To dream that you are looking out the window signifies your outlook on life, your consciousness, point of view, awareness, and intuition. You may be seeking guidance. If you are looking in the window, then it indicates that you are doing some soul searching and looking within yourself.
 
To see shut windows in your dream signifies desertion and abandonment.
 
To see shattered and broken windows, denotes misery and disloyalty.
 
To see a tinted window in your dream represents you are keeping aspects of yourself hidden or that you want to remain ambiguous.
 
To dream that you are entering through a door signifies new opportunities that will be presented before you.
 
If a door that opens to the outside signifies your need to be more accessible to others, whereas a door that opens into the inside denotes your desire for inner exploration and self-discovery.

To see opened doors in your dream, symbolize your receptiveness and willingness to accept new ideas/concepts.

To dream that the doors are closed or locked, signify opportunities that are denied and not available to you or that you have missed out on. Something or someone is blocking your progress. If you are outside the locked door, then it suggests that you are having some anti-social tendencies. If you are inside the locked door, then it represents harsh lessons that need to be learned.
 
To dream that you are locking doors, suggests that you are closing yourself off from others. You are hesitant in letting others in and revealing your feelings. It is indicative of some fear and low self-worth.

If someone slams the door in your face, indicates that you are feeling shut out or some activity or that you are being ignored.
